Inside the ‘Box: Meet Chelsea

It’s rare to find Chelsea looking and sounding abashed, but this particular instance might qualify.

“Amanda Bertram likes to call me ‘Chelfie’ because of my ‘Chelsea selfies,’” she once admitted. “Which has its own hashtag … and I’m not even sure that’s something I should be proud of.”

In her role as a Client Success Manager, Chelsea gets to meet and talk with a lot of people. That seems like a very good fit for someone who is “passionate about relationships.”

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s family or friendships or anything outside or in between,” she says brightly. “I believe that cultivating relationships with others is one of the major keys to your happiness. It’s my job to build relationships with my clients. I am their go-to person for anything they need done or any question they need answered. I love being able to go out to visit them in person and really build a sense of trust with them so they know that I’ll take care of them. I talk to them, not only about work-related topics, but we can chat candidly as well.”

Chelsea’s role involves acting as the primary liaison between doctors and all of the different facets of SmartBox; ensuring that marketing campaigns are performing their best while always looking for ways for improvement; updating projects and making general changes to their marketing daily; and “… constantly looking for ways to make clients happier than they already are and happier than they thought they could be.”

A native Kentuckian, Chelsea holds a BS degree in Merchandising, Apparel, & Textiles and an MBA from Midway University. However, she appears to have been weathering some culture shock. “I’ve lived in Louisville for two years now and never thought I would ever love living here like I do because I am a diehard University of Kentucky Wildcats fan. Go Cats!”

FullSizeRender (2)In a long-distance relationship for 2 ½ years with her boyfriend, Jason, the couple are now the proud owners of a pitbull named Reese. IMG_6491It’s not clear whether Reese enjoys the commute from Louisville to Cincinnati.

Chelsea joined SmartBox in October 2015 thanks to a family “connection.”

“My sister is going into her fourth year at the University of Louisville dental school,” she remarks, “which was one of the reasons I was so drawn to this job working with dental offices. She and her friends in dental school are Caitlin Dental Schoolnow convinced that I am the key to their success in the dental marketing world.”

She certainly seems to have found a home in her role with the company. “I think my strongest work attribute is my ability to work with and talk to anyone. I love to bounce ideas off of everyone around me and collaborate to make sure that any choice I make is well thought out and supported. And I absolutely love my coworkers. Everyone brings something different to the table, and there is not one person that I can’t go to with a question and find an answer. SmartBox is growing quickly, and the employees here all feel like their voice is heard and that we make a difference. I love working for a company where my potential is acknowledged and encouraged.”

Chelsea’s quest for answers isn’t surprising given her nature. “I am constantly checking things off of a list, so I would consider myself very goal oriented,” she says. “I am also determined; if I don’t know how to do something, I will figure out how to do it one way or another. I’ll ask questions, watch YouTube videos, or take courses until I know enough to help someone learn it as well. I try to approach life with a positive outlook as much as possible. It is so easy to complain and forget the bright side of things, and I am the first to admit that I do that a lot. But I also know that when you are able to focus on goal-setting and progress, it tends to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. What you put in is what you get out, so I try every day to put in a little more than I did that day before.”

And speaking of putting things into life …

“I am a self-proclaimed Backstreet Boys fan at the age of almost 29, and I am not ashamed to admit it. I was never able to go to a Backstreet Boys concert as a kid and have been to three after the age of 25. My sister and I ‘fangirl’ harder now than we did when we were 10 years old.”

There’s that whole unabashed thing again.
