Patient Attraction Episode 792

Recent expansion of the ranking factors for Google My Business make it easier for dental patients in your local area to find you … IF you keep your listing updated and compliant. After the break, I’ll tell you how to keep your business listing front and center in search results.

– This is the Patient Attraction Podcast.

– I’m Colin Receveur. Thanks for tuning in.

– Unless you’re a world-renowned dental specialist – one that Hollywood types will fly in to consult – your business is local.

– You need to make sure that the prospective dental patients in your area can find you online.

– Google My Business is a great tool to help patients find you.

– However, it’s reported that a number of businesses vanished off Google My Business on April 1st.

– No, it wasn’t an April Fool’s prank.

– Fortunately, it seems like most, if not all, of those businesses got their listings back.

– You might want to check your listing.

– Google has updated and expanded its Help document that lists the Google My Business ranking factors.

– The three primary factors are still relevance, distance, and prominence.

– All three have been expanded.

– Relevance is how well your listing is responsive to a searcher’s query.

– Make sure that your listing contains complete location and contact information, as well as detailed business information.

– Distance is a no-brainer.

– Google is moving to make search results more and more responsive to searchers’ needs.

– For businesses, distance is now a major factor.

– All other things being relatively equal, the closer business will get preference.

– This is another reason to have accurate location information on your pages.

– Prominence refers to how well-known a business is.

– For small businesses, you get prominence by being mentioned in articles and local directories on the web.

– Backlinks from other reputable sites help, too.

– Positive reviews will likely help your search ranking.

– Your Google My Business listing is a major determinant of how many people find you.

– Make sure yours meets Google’s relevance, distance, and prominence factors.

– Search engine optimization is something that not all dentists have the time for.

– The requirements are constantly changing.

– That’s where a competent outside vendor can help.

– After he began working with SmartBox, Max Gotcher, CEO & Co-Founder of Summit Practice Solutions, said:

– “Within 4 months we went from being nonexistent on Google to being on the first page.”

– Tune in to our next podcast.

– Until then, keep moving forward.
