Patient Attraction Episode 1020

Sometimes, the old sayings are true, and science finally confirms what our mothers have said for generations. But this latest finding has serious implications for the health of your dental patients. I’ll be back after the break to tell you what this new development is, and how you can use it to drive dental restorations. Stay tuned.

– Thanks for watching the Patient Attraction Podcast™.

– I’m Colin Receveur.

– If you’re like me, your mother was always telling you to chew your food.

– Turns out Mom knew what she was talking about.

– According to a recent article, researchers have discovered that the process of chewing one’s food stimulates the release of T helper 17 , or Th17, cells in the mouth.

– Th17 cells are an immune response that may help prevent inflammation in the mouth, particularly in the gums.

– And with gum disease being linked to a wide array of potentially serious health concerns, this is a low-risk, high-reward strategy that your patients need to know.

– The researchers caution that over-chewing food can actually have an inflammatory effect that may promote periodontitis.

– The results are preliminary, but the implications are profound.

– Take a moment and think about how many of your patients are missing 1 or more teeth.

– Or how many have teeth they’re not comfortable chewing on but haven’t done anything about it.

– Those patients probably aren’t chewing their food properly, and they’re opening themselves up to potential dental and medical problems down the road.

– This finding allows you to promote restorations as a preventative measure as well as a cosmetic treatment.

– Crowns, bridges, and dental implants all help restore the ability to chew comfortably, but cost may have held some of your patients back.

– When you reframe the decision to have teeth restored or replaced as a health issue, your patients and prospects may be motivated to take action.

– This is just another example of why dentists should communicate health-related findings to their audience and supply a course of action to follow.

– Encourage your patients to chew their food for the right reasons, and you’ll drive sales.

– Join me for our next podcast.

– Until then, keep moving forward.
