For the next two days, I want to talk about email marketing. I recently came across a fantastic study that breaks down email length and will help you understand how to use email marketing in your dental practice. Stay tuned.

– Colin here, and welcome to another week of the Patient Attraction Podcast.

– Today I want to share with you some incredible statistics that I recently uncovered that explain how we use email today.

– This information is very important to dentists because we know how effective email marketing is to attract new patients and retain existing patients.

– The joint study from the University of Southern California and Yahoo Labs focuses on how consumers use their email and the trends we can expect.

– The results show that people expect emails to be short and punchy, or at least they are less likely to respond to long emails in a timely fashion.

– Basically, a long email makes for a longer response.

– People also reply faster on weekdays than they do on the weekends.

– The overall email response time is now estimated at about 30 to 60 minutes, with the faster email response time being from cell phones.

– That is a monumental change from just a few years ago, when you wouldn’t expect someone to respond so quickly.

– Remember when it was standard for someone to respond to your email within a few days or even by the end of the week?

– Another interesting finding is that the younger you are, the more likely you are to answer emails faster.

– This could be because younger people are glued to their mobile device, while the older population does not rely on the technology nearly as much.

– Whatever the case may be, people between the ages of 18-35 respond to emails twice as fast as people who are 50 or older.

– The study also looked at how active people are in their inbox.

– It turns out that people commonly let email build up, and the more emails people receive, the less likely they are to respond.

– This is particularly a problem for the older population, which is the most likely to not respond to emails when their inbox gets cluttered.

– This an important note that I will touch on more tomorrow.

– None of these statistics take away the effectiveness of email marketing.
