– Number 1: Decide what your priorities are for your newsletter.

– You can use a newsletter to stay in contact, to humanize your staff to your patients, and to inform them of interesting and useful developments.

– Your top priority should determine the frequency of your newsletter.

– That frequency should be the minimum that will accomplish your goal, because people are swamped by emails and snail mail pieces.

– Number 2: Delegate newsletter creation by your staff’s interests and ability.

– One of your staffpeople may be a good writer, while another may have an artistic bent.

– Delegating different aspects of creating a newsletter lessens the burden.

– Number 3: Keep it short.

– That applies to the total length as well as the individual articles.

– People are more pressed for time than ever, and attention spans are shorter.

– Number 4: Punch it up.

– Colorful photos and graphics add to your newsletter’s appeal and keep readers interested.

– Number 5: Edit and proofread.

– With online spelling and grammar checkers, there’s no reason your newsletter should be riddled with typos and bad grammar.
