Search engine optimization, or SEO, is a puzzle that will never be solved once and for all. Google doesn’t give out the recipe for its “secret sauce,” so the best anyone can do is to infer what will work based on Google’s statements about its major updates. I’ll be right back to share three industry trends in SEO for dentists for 2016.

– Google’s major SEO updates include Penguin, Panda, and Hummingbird.

– Those updates have changed the way we approach SEO.

– Penguin is designed to weed out and penalize bad or spammy links on websites.

– Panda seeks out and rewards high-quality content.

– And Hummingbird allows Google to read and understand content much like a human.

– Google has wised up.

– NO ONE can accurately predict how Google will treat a single website.

– But there is one thing that we do know.

– The SEO “tricks” that used to produce high page placement in search engine results just don’t work any more.

– But if you do it right, the payoff can be tremendous.

– As Dr. Randy Schmidt, an orthodontist in the Chicago area, commented:

– Your content has to be fresh, meaning recent or recently updated.

– Number 2: Have a strong social media presence.

– Just having a patient website isn’t enough anymore.

– Google gives points for having quality content in multiple, relevant locations on the web – and points for that content being shared.

– Think Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Tumblr.

– And number 3: Ensure mobile readiness.

– A site that doesn’t load quickly or display properly on mobile devices will take a huge hit.

– And that includes your existing website.

– No one knows Google’s secret sauce.

– But if you produce great content across multiple relevant sites that load and display properly, you’ll be ahead of the game.
